Katen Polen and Lou Ann Miller took home $250 for breaking their old CIRC Master record (07.39.0) and Veteran (55/59) record (08:06.9) respectively. Notable: Andrew Benko came close to breaking his own USA Record of 06:00.4 with a time of 06:01.8 at C.R.A.S.H-B’s . Although Robert Gottschalk turned in a CIRC time of 07:12.0, Tim Aurand – a non Record Challenge competitor- pulled off a 07:05.8 establishing a new CIRC Record. The old record was 07:12.8

95 Personal Bests

“I'll wear my Personal Best pin w/ tremendous pride - and then work as hard to train for next year's CIRC” –M.R.

Last year we gave out 67 Personal Best medals: 33 Men and 34 Women. This year 52 Men and 43 Women established Personal Bests. It is clear; CIRC Competitors get better with age. Next year we will create The Fountain of Youth Award for any competitor over 65 that achieve a Personal Best. Your Award Suggestions are welcomed.

Freedom takes CrossFit Challenge


25 teams from 5 CrossFit gyms competed for the ‘winner takes all’ 100# Silver K-Bell Award. This inaugural event is comprised of 2 competitive events. The first is a 4 person mixed gender Quad 1K event. The resulting team times are averaged and added to the respective gym’s fastest 2K Relay event. The Gym with the fastest combined score wins the Challenge.

Going into the Relay, CF-Freedom led by 04.2 sec. over CF-Arlington Heights and 10.3 over CF-Prevail. Freedom increased their lead by 23.2 over Arlington Heights to capture the CrossFit Challenge and Braggin Rights. Additionally, Freedom established the following CIRC Base Times to beat in 2013.

Fastest CrossFit Relay: Crossfit Freedom = 03:17.9

500m Middle School Record Broken

 


This year saw a dramatic increase in Middle School participation as programs grow at Lincoln Park Juniors, Chicago Training Center, Chicago Youth Rowing, Crystal Lake and Y-Quad Cities. 41 youngsters – 20 girls and 21 boys-competed this year with Ava Lugo breaking the old record of 01:53.1

 RowFit and MSU Take Open Challenge
and establish new records

Women’s Division: RowFit Chicago

Going into the challenge Relay, RowFit held the lead by 20.4 seconds over the University of Chicago. RowFit claimed the over-all victory with a composite time of 15:35.3 over the UC composite of 16:23.2. . RowFit also established a new CIRC Fastest Relay record although the University of Chicago can take pride that their CIRC Open Challenge record still holds at 16:11.2.

Men’s Division: MSU


Going into the challenge Relay, the MSU held a 15.4second advantage over the Chicago Training Center. Pulling 7:00.0 in the relay sealed the victory as MSU opened their lead and claimed the Open Challenge with a composite score of 13:21.7 over CTC with a 13:47.7 composite score.
MSU also established a new CIRC Open Challenge record.

North Suburban Take Youth Challenge
and $250 Team Award

Women’s Division: North Suburban Crew

Going into the challenge Relay, NSC held a 32.7 second lead over CTC. NSC extended their lead over CTC by 40.6 seconds to win the Youth challenge with a composite score of 17:33.6.

Men’s Division: No Competitors

 

$16,425 in Support Givebacks
CIRC exists to support and encourage local indoor and on-water programs for all ages and levels of ability. Givebacks are part of the mission. These Givebacks have supported the Team CAP, CIRC Challenges and will provide for $7,500 toward Adaptive programs in 2012.
