A 2006 Split Decision
The excitement generated was matched by the competitive spirit and respect all teams had for each other.
It was indeed a question of honor and the final 2500-meter relay raised the roof as each team cheered
their mates to shave every second off the time. Once again the race came down to the 'hand-off' that
determined the ultimate winners. Now the rivalry turns to the water as these teams prepare for the
Spring Sprint season.
Women's Division: Detroit Boat Club (DBC)
Going into the Challenge Relay, Detroit had a 6.8 second lead over St. Louis Rowing Club
followed by Ignatius Chicago Crew, New Trier and Chicago Youth Rowing Club at 27
seconds 38.9 seconds and 79.3 seconds respectively. St. Louis put on a spirited
challenge that caught Detroit's boosters anxiously watching the Jumbo Screen. In the end, Detroit
held on to win with a new Women's Youth Challenge record of 16.11.6 beating the previous record
of 16:34.8 set by Ignatius in 2005.
