Chicago Youth Challenge: A Loyola Sweep
The awards this year were 2 Concept Model Ds both of which were won by Loyola Academy after a spirited challenge mounted by the Indianapolis Rowing Center. Going into the relay, IRC men were ahead by 2 seconds with the Loyola women enjoying a 4 second advantage.
The excitement generated was matched by the competitive spirit and respect each team had for the other. It was indeed a question of honor and the final 2500-meter relay raised the roof as each team cheered their mates to shave every second off the time. Once again the race came down to the 'hand-off' that determined the ultimate winners. Now the rivalry turns to the water as these teams prepare for the Spring Sprint season.
The Rules
To qualify, a Team must pre-register with a minimum of 5 competitors and compete in both the 2000m Individual and the 2500-meter Team Relay. All times are averaged from the 2000-meter event to produce Score #1. This is then added and averaged with the 2500m Relay time (Score #2) to produce the Final Team Composite Score. The fastest Final Team Composite Score is declared the Chicago Youth Challenge winner. Awards are given in two categories: Youth Men and Youth Women
